Photographs taken by Takayuki Toyama

Dawn comes upon our village.
The sun casts its
light and the shadows across our mother pond
which reserves the
eau-de-vie for our rice and vegetables.
Hey, it's
a new beginning!

The faraway mountains
stand up above the pond.
Foggy blue air is
swept away
from the surface.
It's our village -- an old, bucolic and cultured village!
The light is
bright,
the colors are
warm,
the weather is
tender,
the breeze is
soft,
the people are
gentle,
and their minds are filled with
peace and pleasure.

In
Japan, Gods are
in the
details.
Their
shrines are scattered
around the village.
Naturally one of them
resides
on the pond.
People clasp
their hands silently
in front of the
shrines
among the
pastral sceneries.
But -- you know -- it's an awfully sad fiction!
Civilization and money made people
gaudy and greedy,
or
people made them so.
I wish the good old days surrounded by those
honest smiles.
Thank you!
